PNMAP Raises Alarm Over Crime, Power Cuts, and Water Shortages in Quetta; Calls Out Saafa Project Corruption

Quetta, Balochistan: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PNMAP) district executives convened a key meeting at the party’s provincial secretariat, chaired by Seyed Sharaf Agha, Secretary Quetta District, to discuss pressing civic issues and organizational plans. The meeting was attended by provincial leaders, including Abdul Qahar Khan Wadaan, provincial deputy secretaries Soorat Khan Kakr and Hazrat Umar Advocate.

The meeting highlighted growing concerns over rising crime, street theft, armed gangs, and hooliganism, emphasizing that police misconduct, including corruption, unnecessary challans, and harassment by Eagle Squad and traffic police, exacerbates public insecurity. The party demanded that the IG Police take immediate notice and implement effective measures, stressing that the eradication of crime requires ending the outdated thana (police station) culture.

Public grievances over unscheduled power cuts were strongly condemned. Certain areas reportedly face continuous electricity shutdowns from morning until 4 PM, disrupting daily life. The PNMAP urged Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) to ensure uninterrupted voltage supply through strict oversight of local feeders and sub-division offices.

The meeting also spotlighted the acute shortage of safe drinking water. Contaminated water, including sewage in taps, is causing illnesses among residents. The Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) was criticized for failing to address these issues, and the MD WASA was called upon to take corrective action immediately.

Furthermore, the Saafa Project, intended to improve sanitation in Quetta, was condemned as a hub of corruption, with streets, drains, and neighborhoods left dirty and clogged. The party demanded that the Administrator of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation ensure proper sanitation and accountability.

Organizationally, the meeting decided to hold regional and tehsil-level conferences and scheduled the next District Committee meeting on April 1 at 3 PM at the central secretariat.

This gathering underscored PNMAP’s commitment to addressing civic issues while strengthening party organization in Quetta.
