Punjab Metro Bus prices go up, commuters affected
LAHORE: Rising fuel prices have led to an increase in Metro Bus fares across Punjab, potentially adding to the financial burden on daily commuters.
Authorities have raised fares by Rs 10 for the Metro Bus services operating in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. The move is being discussed to ease the growing pressure on government subsidies that support the operations of the Metro Bus.
Officials say the rising cost of petroleum products has increased operational expenses, prompting the government to review the current fare structure. The current Metro Bus fare stands at Rs30.
In a Facebook post, the transit authority said the fare has been increased by Rs 10, bringing the new price to Rs 40.
The increase in fares will be implemented in the metro bus systems in Lahore, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, and Multan from March 26, 2026, it said.
In addition, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority also clarified that T-Cash Card holders will be able to buy tickets for only Rs 25, getting a discount of Rs 15, under a new subsidy scheme.
