Balochistan Cabinet Approves Major Decisions on Security, Agriculture, and Food Security; Zero Tolerance on Wheat Irregularities

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) – In its **23rd meeting**, the **Balochistan provincial cabinet**, chaired by **Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti**, approved several far-reaching decisions focused on public welfare, economic stability, agriculture, institutional reforms, and law and order.
Deputy Chief Minister Shahid Rand briefed media that the cabinet strongly condemned the terrorist incidents in Balochistan on **January 31, 2026**, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with affected families. The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a **united and determined effort to eliminate terrorism**. Security agencies’ prompt response to recent events was also praised.
For the agricultural sector, the cabinet approved the **“Water Conservation and Productivity Enhancement in Balochistan through Climate Smart Agriculture”** project, funded by the **Korean Exim Bank**. The initiative aims to improve water usage, promote modern farming techniques, and mitigate climate change impacts to increase crop yields and farmers’ income.
To boost investment, the **Balochistan Land Lease Policy 2026** was approved, ensuring transparent land use for industrial and commercial activities and generating new employment opportunities. For food security, the **Interim National Wheat Policy 2025-26** was approved, under which the **Balochistan Food Department** will purchase **0.5 million metric tons of wheat** to maintain continuous availability and allow rapid response to emergencies.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti also ordered the formation of a **parliamentary subcommittee** to investigate irregularities in government wheat management. A separate committee, headed by the **CMIT chairman**, will recommend fair pricing for the sale of old wheat stocks. Orders were issued for the **arrest and immediate dismissal of officials previously implicated in food department corruption**.
The cabinet approved fund releases for the **Balochistan Development Authority (BDA)** salaries and decided on a **comprehensive restructuring of autonomous bodies** to improve financial discipline, reduce the burden on the provincial treasury, and gradually make institutions self-sufficient.
The cabinet also passed the **Balochistan Public-Private Partnership Act 2025** to increase private sector involvement in development projects and accelerate completion, as well as the **Balochistan Levies Force (Amendment) Bill 2025**, allowing voluntary retirement for employees over 50 and enabling federal levies personnel unable to serve in police to retire.
**Inspector General of Police** provided a detailed briefing on law and order along the **Sibi, Nasirabad, and Kachhi national highways**, and the cabinet directed him to ensure effective security measures and submit a comprehensive report within seven days.
Chief Minister Bugti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to **peace, economic stability, agricultural development, food security, and institutional reforms**, emphasizing that all decisions are made in the interest of the province and public welfare.
