Arbitrary Detention, Bribery and Holding Citizens Without Legal Proceedings Violate Fundamental Human Rights: PKMAP

CHAMAN: The Chaman district secretariat of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) has alleged that the treatment of local citizens travelling through the trade route along the Pak-Afghan Durand Line by Frontier Corps personnel was a clear violation of the Constitution and the law.

In a statement, the district secretariat alleged that local citizens crossing the border on foot were being arbitrarily detained by personnel of FC 143 Wing. It claimed that some citizens were released after allegedly being made to pay money, while several others were being held for weeks at Arab Qila and other forts and various checkpoints without any legal proceedings.

The statement alleged that no FIRs were being registered against the detained individuals under the Foreigners Act, nor were they being handed over to the police or produced before a court. The party described the alleged practice as “unconstitutional measures” and said it was contrary to both national laws and fundamental human rights.

The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party demanded that the government and relevant authorities establish a clear and lawful procedure for the movement of local residents along the Durand Line.

The party said that if any individual was found to have violated the law, he should be arrested in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Constitution and produced before a court, rather than being subjected to unlawful detention and harassment.

The party warned that if the situation was not rectified immediately, it would join hands with the public and adopt the path of protest against the alleged violations.
