Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party Rejects Government’s Controversial Divisions Plan, Calls for Immediate Reversal

Quetta (Qudrat Roznama) – The central secretariat of the **Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PNAP)** has strongly rejected the provincial government’s decision to create new divisions and merge districts, describing it as contrary to historical and geographical realities. The party has demanded the immediate reversal of the decision.

According to the statement, the Pashtun-Baloch province was artificially formed in 1970 under a martial law ordinance by merging the Qalat State Union with British Balochistan without determining the rights of the Pashtun majority. The party stated that the consequences of this grave political error continue to be borne unilaterally by the Pashtun population.

The statement further highlighted that Pashtuns in the province are increasingly deprived of equality, political, economic, democratic, and human rights. It accused the government of arbitrarily structuring divisions and districts to underrepresent the Pashtun population while disproportionately increasing the Baloch population, a trend reflected in the 2023 census.

The PNAP emphasized that merging districts in a manner that distorts historical, geographical, national, and social values is equivalent to rewriting history and must be immediately halted. The party stated that it rejects these unilateral decisions, which go against the will of the Pashtun nation, and warned that it will not hesitate to pursue judicial and legal measures alongside peaceful, democratic political struggle with the full support of its people. The responsibility for any consequences, the party added, rests entirely with the government.
