Wheat Shortage Intensifies in Balochistan: Price of Flour Hits Rs 145 per Kg as Government Opts Not to Procure Wheat

**Quetta:** Balochistan is facing a severe wheat shortage, pushing the price of flour to Rs 145 per kilogram. Residents will have to purchase expensive flour for the next two months until the new wheat harvest arrives.

Market sources report that a 20-kg bag of flour is being sold for Rs 2,900 in Quetta, while prices in other parts of the province have exceeded Rs 3,000. Owners of flour mills attribute the price hike to the lack of local wheat and restrictions on importing wheat from Punjab and Sindh. In the past, the Food Department used to provide stock wheat to mills, helping stabilize prices.

Provincial Minister for Food, Noor Muhammad Domar, stated that the Balochistan government has decided not to procure wheat from farmers in 2026, raising concerns that the flour crisis could worsen in the coming days.
