Mismanagement at University of Balochistan Jeopardizes MPhil and PhD Students’ Future

Quetta: Students and educational circles have raised serious concerns over mismanagement and administrative delays at the University of Balochistan, warning that the future of MPhil and PhD researchers is at risk.
The university is among the few institutions that do not extend deadlines for submitting applications to postgraduate research programs. This rigid policy, coupled with administrative inefficiency, has reportedly caused financial losses for the university and wasted the valuable potential of aspiring researchers.
Earlier this year, the MPhil and PhD entrance tests announced in June were canceled due to poor planning. Since then, the administration has failed to implement an alternative system or establish a transparent process. Recently, the university’s admission portal was abruptly closed without prior notice, leaving students frustrated and accusing the administration of negligence.
The situation worsened when several departments and offices at the university were sealed, halting verification processes for degrees, certificates, and admission forms. Students have reported being unable to access the necessary offices, affecting admissions for MPhil, PhD, and other programs.
Students highlighted a “double standard” in administrative practices: while the administration refuses to extend admission deadlines, the closure of offices and pending verification work have created uncertainty and severe mental stress among candidates.
According to the Undergraduate Students Office, enrollment in the BS 2025 program reached its lowest level in recent years, which experts attribute to increasing mismanagement, administrative negligence, and an uncertain academic environment at the university.
Students, parents, and education stakeholders have urged the Balochistan High Court and the Governor of Balochistan, who also serves as the university’s chancellor, to take immediate notice. They demand the reopening of departments, resumption of the admission portal, completion of pending verification processes, and a reasonable extension for submitting MPhil and PhD applications to safeguard students’ academic futures.
