Chicken Prices Soar to 680 PKR per Kilo in Quetta; Vegetables and Fruits Also See Sharp Price Hikes
Quetta:the provincial capital of Balochistan, the price of chicken has surged by an additional 15 PKR, reaching a new high of 680 PKR per kilogram. The cost of live chickens has also risen to 480 PKR per kilogram. Over the past week, chicken prices have increased by 220 PKR per kilogram, leaving residents frustrated.
The rise in chicken prices is attributed to disruptions in supply from Punjab and a shortage of stock. Local poultry vendors have cited these factors as reasons for the escalating costs. Meanwhile, the prices of fruits and vegetables have also skyrocketed, adding to the financial strain on residents.
Currently, the prices of vegetables in Quetta are as follows:
– Tomatoes: 150 PKR per kilogram
– Onions: 100 PKR per kilogram
– Potatoes: 100 PKR per kilogram
– Okra: 250-300 PKR per kilogram
– French Beans: 300 PKR per kilogram
– Lemons: 400 PKR per kilogram
– Garlic: 450 PKR per kilogram
– Ginger: 600 PKR per kilogram
– Cauliflower: 200 PKR per kilogram
– Cabbage: 150 PKR per kilogram
– Eggplants: 150 PKR per kilogram
– Spinach: 60 PKR per bundle
– Green Chilies: 300 PKR per kilogram
Fruit prices have also seen significant increases:
– Chaunsa Mangoes: 250 PKR per kilogram
– Guavas: 100 PKR per kilogram
– Watermelons: 90 PKR per kilogram
– Peaches: 250 PKR per kilogram
– Cherries: 800 PKR per kilogram
– Pears: 500 PKR per kilogram
Residents have urged district authorities to take measures to control the rising prices and alleviate the economic burden on the community.
