Punjab Government Launches Electric Bike Scheme for Teachers

Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to introduce a new electric bike scheme aimed at providing affordable and convenient transportation to teachers across the province.

The initiative is designed to offer teachers a low-cost, eco-friendly, and efficient mode of transport, enabling them to commute to their educational institutions with ease. Under the scheme, teachers will be able to acquire electric bikes by paying an initial down payment, while the remaining amount will be paid in easy installments through an institutional mechanism.

Officials said the move will help reduce the financial burden on teachers and provide relief from rising fuel costs. In addition to easing daily commuting, the electric bike scheme is expected to contribute to a reduction in environmental pollution.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, while sharing details of the plan, said the government is taking practical steps for the welfare of teachers. He added that a proposal to provide free electric scooters to female teachers is also under consideration. On the instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab, a special package is being prepared for women teachers to address their transportation challenges and provide them with additional facilities.

The education minister emphasized that the government values the role of teachers and considers the provision of modern facilities for them a top priority. He further said that detailed information regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures, and other aspects of the scheme will be announced in the coming days.

According to officials, the initiative will not only make teachers’ professional lives easier but will also play a significant role in promoting electric vehicles across the province.
