Balochistan Assembly Voices Alarming Concerns Over Law and Order, Gas Shortages, and Shutdown of Services

ISLAMABAD – The Balochistan Assembly witnessed heated debate on the province’s deteriorating law and order situation, suspension of internet and transport services, severe electricity and gas shortages, and crises caused by the excavation of major roads.

Addressing the session, MPA Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman expressed deep concern over the worsening conditions, stating that internet services, transport, and highways across the province remain shut, while orders have now been issued to halt work by QESCO and the NHA as well. He questioned the government’s performance, asking, **“Where is the SHO who was once credited with eliminating these terrorists?”**

Meanwhile, MPA Agha Umar Ahmedzai staged a walkout from the assembly in protest over the continuous absence of electricity and gas in the Sariab area. Members also raised the issue of massive road digging and resulting traffic chaos in Quetta. In response, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai summoned the Commissioner of Quetta to his chamber on Thursday.

Government MPA Ali Madad Jatak admitted that gas shortages have gripped both Quetta and Sariab, saying citizens are in severe distress. Another member, Ali Farah Azeem, praised the 27th Constitutional Amendment as an effective mechanism for institutional coordination and applauded the military leadership, stating that Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir pulled the country out of international isolation.

JUI-F MPA Asghar Tareen stressed that the gas crisis is not merely an inconvenience but a matter of life and death for the public, urging the Chief Minister to raise the issue with the federal government on an emergency basis. Addressing Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, he remarked that government members should not criticise the government while sitting on treasury benches, suggesting that he move to the opposition side if he wishes to continue such speeches.

The Speaker ruled that lawmakers will receive an in-camera briefing on the law-and-order situation on Thursday. Due to lack of quorum, the session was adjourned until Thursday at 3 PM.
