Russian Man Changed His Full Name Every Year to Avoid Child Support Payments

In a bizarre case from the Russian city of Tyumen, a man repeatedly changed his full name each year in an attempt to evade paying child support.

Roman Korenev, head of the Tyumen Bailiff Service, revealed to Russian media that the individual altered his first name, last name, and patronymic annually in hopes of escaping his legal financial responsibilities toward his children.

According to Korenev, the man would revert to his original name after a year and then repeat the cycle, believing this would help him avoid detection by bailiff officers and reset his outstanding debt. However, the tactic ultimately failed.

Korenev explained that whenever a person changes their name, the civil registry office automatically forwards the updated information to bailiff authorities, making it impossible for debtors to escape child support obligations.

Tyumen bailiff officers also shared that residents often resort to unusual tricks to avoid debt recovery. In one case, a man falsely claimed to suffer from agoraphobia (fear of going outside) to prevent officers from visiting his home—only for authorities to later discover he owned two apartments, one of which was already under enforcement action.
