Mahmood Khan Achakzai Calls for National Government and New Election Commission, Criticizes 27th Constitutional Amendment

**Islamabad/Quetta (Qudrat Daily)** – **Mahmood Khan Achakzai**, Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and head of the **Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan**, delivered a fiery address in the National Assembly, tearing up a copy of the **27th Constitutional Amendment** and warning that the bill could threaten the country and the constitution.
Speaking in the assembly, Achakzai drew parallels with the trials of **Prophets Adam, Moses, and Jonah**, emphasizing that no one is above the law, and even minor deviations from principles can have serious consequences. He stated that the 27th Amendment represents a test for Pakistan: whether the nation will uphold the **supremacy of the constitution** or weaken its spirit.
He criticized the current parliament as **not truly representative of the people**, citing doubts over several members’ credentials and warning that decisions taken in such an environment could undermine merit, accountability, and constitutional pillars. Achakzai expressed concern that the amendment could open doors for **unmerited extensions in key positions** and lead to a system where “might makes right,” undermining public rights.
Achakzai called for the formation of a **temporary national government**, the establishment of a **strong and independent Election Commission**, and **transparent elections** to restore public confidence. He vowed that the **Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain** would oppose the proposed amendments unconditionally and urged party workers to intensify **protests and awareness campaigns** nationwide.
He stressed the importance of enforcing accountability **without discrimination** and maintaining the **integrity of judiciary and constitutional institutions** as essential for Pakistan’s democratic stability. The lawmaker warned that failure to uphold these principles could threaten both democracy and the nation’s future.
