Iranian Revolutionary Guards Announce Closure of Strait of Hormuz

Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to alleged violations of a ceasefire agreement, according to official statements.
Reports from international media suggest that Iran’s central military command issued a statement claiming that Israel violated the ceasefire by carrying out strikes in southern Lebanon. In response, Iran declared the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
The IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated in a televised announcement that the move is a direct response to what it called “enemy violations of commitments,” adding that further steps may be taken if hostilities continue.
The statement warned that additional measures could be implemented to compel the opposing side to honor its obligations, emphasizing that the closure is only the first response to recent developments.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials also announced that, under the so-called “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” a delegation will be sent to Switzerland for final negotiations with the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that the Iranian delegation will depart shortly for talks, stating that Iran will demand full implementation of commitments by the other party. He added that Iran remains committed to its own obligations but expects reciprocal compliance, particularly regarding the cessation of Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
Baghaei further warned that if the United States fails to uphold its commitments, Iran will consider taking necessary countermeasures.
