FBR Moves Against Wealthy Social Media Influencers Flaunting Luxury Lifestyles

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to launch action against wealthy individuals who flaunt their luxury lifestyles on **social media** but either remain outside the tax net or underreport their income. However, those who file updated income tax returns will not face immediate scrutiny.
According to FBR sources, a **special social media monitoring team** has compiled data on around **100,000 affluent individuals**, analyzing their income and lavish spending patterns. This includes people showcasing **luxury cars, mansions, jewelry, and extravagant weddings**.
Officials revealed that individuals spending as much as **\$20,000 on wedding suits** or hosting grand ceremonies without declaring corresponding income in their tax returns will come under investigation.
The FBR plans to **cross-check last year’s tax returns with the current year**, auditing up to **80% of total filings**. Those displaying opulence online will be required to justify their **sources of income** through their returns.
Authorities further warned that individuals failing to declare a rise in annual income will face strict legal action, urging taxpayers to **update their returns** to avoid penalties.
