PTI Leader Alia Hamza Arrested Ahead of Party Convention in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab’s Chief Organizer **Alia Hamza** was arrested in Rawalpindi while she was about to address a party workers’ convention in **Noorani Mohalla**. Police detained her at the venue and transferred her to the **Women’s Police Station**, according to initial reports.
However, a statement issued via PTI South Punjab’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Alia Hamza, along with several party workers, was later moved to the **Civil Lines Police Station**.
Prior to her arrest, Alia Hamza stated, “We have gathered peacefully. I just want to speak for 10 minutes, but police have arrested me illegally.”
Sources have confirmed that **Shamim Aftab**, another PTI activist, was also arrested alongside Hamza. Both were taken to Civil Lines Police Station along with **eight other PTI workers**.
PTI leader **Samabia Tahir** condemned the arrests, saying a **Youth Convention** was underway in Rawalpindi when Hamza was detained. She noted that while five workers were shifted to the **Airport Police Station**, Alia Hamza was initially sent to the Women’s Police Station.
“Organizing a convention or staging a peaceful protest is our **constitutional right**. We did nothing illegal,” Samabia Tahir asserted, calling the arrests unjustified and politically motivated.
The arrests have sparked criticism from PTI leadership and supporters, who are calling for the immediate release of the detained party members.
