Afghan Woman Gang-Raped by Five Afghan Refugees in Haripur

PESHAWAR: A 21-year-old Afghan woman was allegedly gang-raped by five Afghan refugee youths in the Khala Butt Township area of Haripur district, police confirmed on Friday.

According to *Dawn News*, the married woman—whose husband is abroad—resides in Sector 3 of Khala Butt Township’s new settlement on rent and holds a valid Pakistani visa.

SHO Khala Butt Township Inspector Siddique Shah said the woman reported that on Thursday evening (September 11), while she was walking to Afghan Camp No. 16 to meet relatives, a man intercepted her and dragged her into a maize field. The suspect, who identified himself as Bacha, allegedly assaulted her.

She further told police that shortly afterward, four accomplices of the suspect arrived at the scene and also raped her one after another. The victim added that when she resisted, one of the attackers slapped and punched her, causing injuries to her face and lips.

The woman identified all five suspects as Afghan refugees named Nadi, Rozi, Khan Sher, Javed, and Naseer. An initial medical examination conducted at Haripur Trauma Centre confirmed the assault, while a detailed forensic report is awaited.

Police have registered a case under Section 375-A of the Pakistan Penal Code and arrested the suspects. The accused will be presented before a local magistrate on Saturday (September 13) for physical remand, SHO Shah said.
