Powerful Monsoon Spell to Bring Heavy Rains in Karachi; Urban Flooding Alert Issued

Karachi: A powerful monsoon spell is expected to hit Karachi from this evening or night, with the Meteorological Department warning of heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, raising concerns of urban flooding.
According to the Met Office, the system is currently located over southwest Rajasthan (India) and adjoining parts of Sindh, pushing continuous monsoon winds into the province. From today until September 11, Karachi is likely to experience intermittent moderate to heavy downpours with gusty winds and thunder. The weather is expected to remain humid and cloudy prior to rainfall.
On Tuesday, the city could see intense showers with strong winds, potentially leading to urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas. The department also cautioned that heavy rains, lightning, and thunderstorms could disrupt daily life.
Other districts, including Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, and Hyderabad, are also at risk of urban flooding and waterlogging.
Over the next 24 hours, sea winds at speeds of 15 to 50 km/h are expected, with humidity ranging from 65% to 85%. Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.5°C today, while the maximum is likely to reach around 33°C.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department in Islamabad reported that under the influence of the same system, southeastern Sindh areas including Umerkot, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chachro, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Hyderabad could also receive heavy rain and thunderstorms within the next 2–4 hours.
Authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures during the active weather spell.
