Rain Brings Relief to Karachi After Intense Heat and Humidity

More Showers Expected Over the Next Three Days, Says Met Department

Karachi: After a day of intense heat and humidity, clouds finally burst over Karachi, bringing much-needed relief to residents. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon winds entering the city from the east and northeast caused light rainfall in suburban areas.
Moderate rain was recorded in several parts of the city, including the airport area, Landhi, Quaidabad, Korangi, and around the Meteorological Office.
The Met Office had earlier forecast hot and humid weather with chances of isolated showers in some areas. It has predicted intermittent moderate rain with thunder and lightning for Tuesday. Under the current monsoon system, mostly cloudy skies and periodic thunderstorms are expected in the city on Wednesday.
During this period, temperatures in Karachi could rise up to 37°C. Morning humidity may reach up to 85%, while evening levels could go up to 65%. Northeasterly winds are likely to prevail during most of the day.
Thunderstorms and showers are also expected in several districts of rural Sindh. The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds could disrupt daily life and lead to urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
Weak structures such as mud houses, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels may be at risk of damage during this period.
Rain Emergency Meeting and Preparedness**
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed all municipal bodies in the province to stay alert and active. He also instructed traffic police to manage the flow of vehicles during rains to prevent congestion and accidents.
During a briefing, the CM was informed that rainfall is expected to begin in Karachi from tonight. Karachi Mayor stated that work is underway to clear 44 identified choking points in city drains, while 120 suction vehicles are on standby to remove water from low-lying areas.
The Chief Minister also noted that heavy rainfall in Thar has filled all local dams, which is a significant development for the water needs of Thar’s residents.
