Imran Khan’s Sisters Criticize Jail Authorities, Reject Claims Over Prison Meeting Arrangements
Islamabad: The sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed frustration while speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, criticizing the handling of prison meeting arrangements and urging journalists not to sensationalize their visits.
Responding to a question regarding television anchor Iqrar Ul Hassan, the sisters said, “Please don’t turn our meetings into a spectacle. If you don’t have any questions, don’t waste our time.”
Speaking to reporters, Aleema Khan claimed that supporters and party workers were facing pressure and intimidation. She alleged that people were receiving threatening phone calls warning them not to gather outside Adiala Jail and suggested that the issue should be raised collectively in parliament to determine who was responsible for the alleged threats.
Aleema Khan also rejected what she described as the government’s and prison administration’s narrative, stating that the family’s demand extends beyond a single prison meeting. She said they were seeking an end to Imran Khan’s solitary confinement, restoration of all his legal rights, and access to comprehensive medical treatment.
She further alleged that a request for a single prison meeting, submitted in the name of security, was part of a plan by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to circumvent a larger bench court order permitting weekly meetings with multiple visitors. According to her, the family’s lawyers had advised against submitting such a request.
Another of Imran Khan’s sisters, Noreen Niazi, said the family had arrived at the prison on time both during the current and previous visits, rejecting claims that they had been late.
She alleged that no prison official came out to speak with them and said they had asked the local police station house officer (SHO) to inform the prison administration of their arrival. According to Noreen Niazi, the officer told them that the message had been conveyed to the authorities inside the jail.
