Penalties on Transporters Are Excessive, FIRs Have Been Withdrawn: Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar

Karachi: Punjab Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar has said that penalties imposed on transporters were excessive and that FIRs registered against them have now been withdrawn.

According to Jang, Bilal Akbar visited the Mauripur Truck Stand in Karachi, where he met the president of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance and other office-bearers. He appreciated the transport community for observing a peaceful strike, stating that no vandalism took place during the protest. “I thank the transporters for maintaining peace,” he said.

The provincial minister announced that rest areas would be established for drivers. He further stated that fitness certificates issued in Karachi would be recognized in Punjab and would remain valid for six months. However, he clarified that fines would still be imposed in case of vehicle faults.

Bilal Akbar also conveyed that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has directed the construction of truck stands in every city. Addressing licensing issues, he acknowledged delays and difficulties in obtaining driving licenses and said that only those who are capable of driving will be issued Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) licenses.

The minister reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to resolving issues faced by transporters and improving facilities for the transport sector.
