Pakistan and Micronesia Establish Formal Diplomatic Relations

NEW YORK:Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia have officially established diplomatic relations, marking a new chapter in bilateral engagement between the two countries.
The joint communiqué was signed in **New York** by **Ambassador Munir Akram**, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and **Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe**, Permanent Representative of Micronesia to the UN. The ceremony took place at the **Pakistan Mission to the United Nations**, attended by diplomats from both sides, including Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, **Ambassador Usman Jadoon**.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Akram expressed delight that the establishment of diplomatic ties coincided with **Pakistan’s Independence Day**, calling it a meaningful and symbolic gesture. He emphasized that the relationship would open avenues for cooperation in areas such as **human resource development, capacity building, and climate change**.
Ambassador Akram also noted that both countries would collaborate closely on important matters at the United Nations, particularly in promoting **global peace and security**. He further expressed satisfaction that Pakistan is the **100th country** with which Micronesia has formal diplomatic relations.
On his part, Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe warmly welcomed the establishment of bilateral ties and said it was an honor to represent his country in initiating this new journey of **friendship and partnership** with Pakistan. He thanked Pakistan for its support in helping Micronesia work toward establishing a greater **UN presence** within the country and expressed his eagerness to strengthen this newly formed relationship.
Ambassador Lippwe also extended **congratulations to Pakistan** on the occasion of its Independence Day.
Prior to the signing, the two ambassadors held a brief meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore areas of potential cooperation both bilaterally and at the multilateral level within the United Nations framework.
