Jinnah Was Offered Prime Ministership of United India, Reveals Lord Mountbatten: Hamid Mir Cites Explosive Claims

Islamabad:Senior journalist and TV host **Hamid Mir** has made a startling revelation during his show *Capital Talk*, citing the book **“Lord Mountbatten and the Partition of India”**, which includes **first-hand admissions** from the last Viceroy of British India, **Lord Louis Mountbatten**.

According to Hamid Mir, the book clearly documents that **Lord Mountbatten was firmly against the creation of Pakistan**, stating:

> *”I was against the formation of Pakistan as I never wanted a divided India,”* Mountbatten admits in the book.

The most **explosive revelation**, however, is that Mountbatten, **on Mahatma Gandhi’s insistence**, offered **Muhammad Ali Jinnah** the **Prime Ministership of a united India** — an offer **Jinnah declined without hesitation**.

> *“I tried every possible tactic to convince Jinnah to accept the offer, but he was not interested,”* Mountbatten is quoted as saying.
> *“He told me clearly: ‘I can lose everything, but I will never be a part of Hindu rule.’”*

Hamid Mir highlighted that Mountbatten, in a rare moment of reflection, **acknowledged his defeat** at the hands of Jinnah’s determination:

> *“If Jinnah had died two years earlier, we would have never allowed Pakistan to come into existence,”* Mountbatten reportedly said.
> *“He was the only leader who singlehandedly defeated all our efforts. I admit, I failed in front of him.”*

These revelations provide a **new perspective on the final days before Partition**, shedding light on **how pivotal Jinnah’s resolve was in the creation of Pakistan**, and how close history came to taking a different path.
