Balochistan CM Mir Sarfraz Bugti Chairs High-Level Meeting to Address Water Crisis in Gwadar

Gwadar:A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, took place to discuss the ongoing water crisis in Gwadar. The meeting was attended by Member of Provincial Assembly Gwadar, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, and senior officials from relevant departments.

The meeting concluded with immediate and long-term measures to resolve the water shortage in Gwadar. CM Bugti directed that water-related projects should be expedited, and all available resources be utilized for this purpose.

The Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority provided a briefing, stating that the Water Desalination Plant at the port has been restored to a capacity of 300,000 gallons per day. He further informed that within the next three days, the plant’s capacity will be increased to 600,000 gallons per day.

The Chief Minister emphasized that in case of power outages, the water plant should be shifted to an alternative energy source to ensure uninterrupted water supply. He also instructed that the link for water transmission from the Shadi Kor Dam should be expedited, and water pipeline projects be completed within 15 days.

To effectively tackle the water crisis, a coordination committee has been formed, headed by the Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority. The committee will consist of the heads of various departments and will send daily progress reports to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

Addressing the meeting, CM Bugti assured that the water shortage in Gwadar would be resolved at all costs. He added, “No negligence or delay will be tolerated. We will also discuss the unannounced and prolonged electricity outages from Iran with the Prime Minister and the Power Division.”

He further emphasized that ongoing and proposed water projects in Gwadar must be completed on an emergency basis. “I will personally monitor the progress of water-related issues and ensure that public concerns are addressed promptly.”
