Unauthorized Use of PKR 4 Billion Uncovered in Pakistan Post

Islamabad: A shocking revelation of unauthorized use of PKR 4 billion in Pakistan Post came to light during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) held under the chairmanship of MNA Junaid Akbar.
The committee questioned the Director General (DG) of Pakistan Post over the mismanagement of funds. During the proceedings, DG Pakistan Post explained that the irregularities occurred in the early months of system implementation due to staff inexperience and the transition to a new system. However, audit officials disagreed with the explanation, asserting that such irregularities are still ongoing.
PAC member Shazia Marri expressed strong disapproval and asked, “How can you defend the unauthorized movement of such a large amount of money?”
Pakistan Post officials tried to clarify that the issue has been resolved and all funds are now being routed to Account-I. However, audit representatives maintained that the issue was not just incorrect billing, but that the funds were also misused in inappropriate areas.
Chairman Junaid Akbar, echoing the sentiment of committee members, stated that the matter could not be resolved through a simple review since the funds had been diverted elsewhere. At this point, the Secretary of Communications requested a three-month period to investigate and promised to present findings if any misuse was confirmed.
Junaid Akbar agreed and instructed the concerned officials to submit a detailed report to the committee after three months.
