Cost of Converting Old Motorcycle into Electric Bike Reaches Around Rs150,000

Lahore: With rising fuel prices, the trend of converting old petrol motorcycles into electric bikes is rapidly gaining popularity in Pakistan.
According to market reports, many citizens are turning to electric conversions as an alternative to reduce fuel expenses. The growing interest comes as petrol prices continue to rise amid regional tensions in the Middle East.
Shop owners say that converting a conventional motorcycle into an electric bike requires installing an electric motor, controller, and battery. Once installed, the motorcycle operates entirely on battery power.
Experts estimate that converting a standard motorcycle into an electric bike costs around Rs150,000 in total. The most expensive component is the battery, which costs approximately Rs80,000.
One of the biggest advantages of an electric bike is that it does not require petrol or engine oil. Maintenance costs are also lower because it eliminates the need for frequent tuning or replacing parts such as chains and sprockets.
According to dealers, a fully charged electric bike can travel up to 60 kilometers and reach speeds of about 60 km/h. Another notable benefit is that electric bikes operate almost silently, helping reduce noise pollution.
Market sources say that a new electric scooter is available for around Rs200,000, but its battery typically lasts between one to one and a half years. In contrast, the Rs80,000 battery used in converted motorcycles can last up to six years.
Experts believe that if petrol prices continue to increase, the use of electric bikes is likely to become even more common in the future
