Tunisian Woman Seeks Shelter in Karachi After Failed Marriage with Local Man

Karachi: A New Love Story’s Tragic End for a Tunisian Girl
A tragic tale of love gone wrong has emerged from Karachi, echoing a similar story of an American woman’s failed romance. This time, a 19-year-old girl from Tunisia, named Sanda Ayari, has reached out for shelter at the Women’s Police Station in Karachi after her marriage to a local man ended in divorce.
Sanda, who hails from the capital of Tunisia, arrived in Karachi on November 28, 2024. She had befriended Muhammad Amir, a resident of the Naya Abad Khadda Market area of Lyari, through social media. The two fell in love and decided to marry. Sanda applied for a Pakistani visa and flew to Karachi, where she was greeted by Amir and his family at the airport. The very next day, Amir’s family organized a wedding ceremony for the couple.
However, soon after the wedding, the couple’s relationship began to deteriorate. According to Sanda, small disagreements led to escalating tensions, culminating in Amir filing for divorce. The girl claims that she now wishes to return to her homeland.
Sanda’s Pakistani visa, valid for 90 days, expired on February 18, and she cannot leave the country without visa renewal or an exit permit. The renewal process would cost her approximately 400 USD, in addition to more than 200,000 Pakistani rupees for a flight ticket.
According to police, Sanda has not filed any complaints against her husband for mistreatment. She has been provided shelter by the Women’s Police Station. The police summoned Amir, who confirmed the divorce and left the station. Further attempts to contact him were unsuccessful as his phone was turned off.
Sanda’s situation remains precarious, caught in the midst of a failed marriage, visa issues, and financial challenges.
