Journalist Ghareeda Farooqi Shares Details of Sarhad University Incident Involving Army Officer
ISLAMABAD: Journalist Ghareeda Farooqi has shared what she described as details surrounding the Sarhad University incident involving Lieutenant Colonel Asfandiyar Wali, saying his wife, Dr Aina, allegedly faced abuse and inappropriate conduct by students during a protest.
In a post on X, Farooqi said Dr Aina, who teaches at the university, had an issue with the head of her department. According to her account, a case against the HoD was established and the official was subsequently suspended. Students supporting the HoD were protesting for his reinstatement.
Farooqi said that when Dr Aina appeared before the protesting students, she was allegedly subjected to abusive and inappropriate language. Some reports, she added, also alleged that the woman faced physical harassment and was dragged by students.

According to Farooqi, Dr Aina immediately contacted her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Asfandiyar, who arrived at the university. She said the events that followed were captured on video.
Farooqi said the army officer is currently in custody and an investigation is underway. She added that he could face strict disciplinary action over alleged violations of military discipline and the reported use of an official pistol.
The journalist said the matter should ideally have been addressed through a formal complaint and legal procedures regarding the alleged treatment of the officer’s wife. However, she noted that a person could lose composure when confronted with alleged abuse involving a spouse or family member.
Farooqi also questioned how a person might react if a woman from his family were publicly insulted, subjected to inappropriate conduct or humiliated.
At the same time, she stressed that the military has a strict accountability system and that violations of discipline cannot be overlooked.
The allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to the ongoing investigation, while the video footage circulating on social media has drawn considerable public attention.
