Balochistan Government to Launch “People’s Train” for Affordable and Modern Travel

QUETTA:In a significant move towards enhancing public convenience and modern transportation services, the Balochistan government has announced the launch of the “People’s Train” in collaboration with Pakistan Railways. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sardar Fazal Baggti, on Friday. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Meena Majeed Baloch, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Mir Liaqat Ali Lehri, Chief Secretary of Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and others.
The decision is aimed at providing citizens with high-quality, safe, and cost-effective travel facilities. The initial phase of the People’s Train service will operate between Quetta’s nearby areas of Saryab and Kuchlak. The project will involve upgrading five existing, outdated railway stations in the region and constructing two new ones. Moreover, the railway tracks will be modernized to ensure improved train speed and safety.
In addition to the train service, the meeting also decided to activate Pakistan Railways’ football ground for recreational and sports activities.
Chief Minister Mir Sardar Fazal Baggti, while addressing the gathering, stated that the People’s Train service would not only provide ease of daily commuting for Quetta residents but also benefit those in surrounding areas, ensuring time savings and comfortable travel. He termed this initiative as the fulfillment of the “dream of affordable transportation and modern travel infrastructure.”
The Chief Minister further emphasized that the Balochistan government is committed to launching public-friendly and sustainable transport projects, with the People’s Train service being the first of many. He also mentioned that the Railway Football Ground will be activated by the Sports Department of Balochistan to promote sports activities and provide essential facilities for the community.
The authorities have been directed to make this project feasible and operational as soon as possible, ensuring that the citizens of Quetta and its surrounding areas have access to a modern, efficient transport system.
