Opposition Protests Cause Rs. 35 Crore Damage to National Assembly’s Microphone System

Islamabad: During the presentation of the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, the opposition staged a fierce protest, raising slogans and throwing copies of the budget documents across the assembly floor.
Amidst the chaos, opposition leader Umar Ayub was seen banging the budget documents on the assembly desk in protest. Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that the microphone system in the National Assembly broke down as a result of the protest, and the cost to repair it is in the millions.
Ahsan Iqbal stated, “Due to the violent protests led by the opposition leader, the microphone system for four rows of opposition benches has broken down. Now, the entire system will need to be replaced, which will cost around 350 million rupees. Should the people of Pakistan bear the cost of this ruthless act, or should this amount be deducted from the opposition’s salaries?”

It is important to note that Federal Finance Minister, Mohammad Aurangzeb, presented a budget of 17,573 billion rupees for the fiscal year 2025-26, which includes 2,550 billion rupees allocated for defense. The budget also introduced significant tax relief for salaried classes. However, the budget presentation was marred by loud protests and disruptions from opposition members throughout the session.
