Allegations of Millions in Embezzlement in Prison Rations at Adiala Jail

Rawalpindi: Allegations of large-scale financial irregularities in the ration supply for inmates at Adiala Jail have surfaced, with claims of monthly embezzlement running into hundreds of thousands of rupees. However, an official inquiry has yet to be initiated.

According to a complaint submitted to the Punjab Home Department and the Chief Minister of Punjab, despite government allocation of funds providing 540 grams of chicken per prisoner per week, inmates are allegedly being served lentils instead. The complaint claims that jail administration and a head clerk are involved in misappropriating the allocated funds.

It is further alleged that over the past year alone, more than Rs11.5 million allocated for chicken supply has been embezzled.

The complaint details an alleged modus operandi in which chicken is replaced with lentils multiple times a week, while the allocated funds are diverted.

Additionally, the complaint raises concerns over alleged corruption in the sale of leftover bread collected daily within the jail. It claims that this practice generates over Rs4.5 million per month through illegal means.

The allegations call for a transparent investigation into the matter; however, no formal inquiry has reportedly been launched so far.
