Makhdoom Khan Achakzai Stresses Pashtun Loyalty to Pakistan and Calls for Constitutional Supremacy

Quetta:Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the head of the Movement for the Protection of Pakistan’s Constitution, addressed a gathering at the Pashtun Olasi Jirga in Quetta on Saturday, emphasizing the loyalty of Pashtuns to Pakistan and their desire for a better future within the country. He made it clear that Pashtuns are not seeking to break away from Pakistan, despite feeling politically oppressed.

Achakzai stated that while Pakistan celebrates Independence Day with patriotic slogans, the Pashtun community still feels deprived of freedom and rights. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pashtuns during the creation of Pakistan but also pointed out the internal and external challenges the country faces, some of which are a result of the enemy’s actions and others due to Pakistan’s own mistakes.

He pointed out that the issue of the Durand Line remains a point of contention between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but reiterated that Pashtuns consider Pakistan their home, and are not slaves to any particular group within the country. Achakzai also emphasized that Afghanistan is a part of Pashtun heritage, and that many of his forefathers are buried there.

Achakzai called for all ethnic groups within Pakistan to have their rights recognized, stressing that the military should stay out of politics and that efforts should be made to release former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He also underscored the need for Pakistan to be governed according to the supremacy of the Constitution, with an elected parliament guiding the country’s domestic and foreign policies.

Further, he advocated for the recognition of the rights of people from all ethnic groups, including Baloch, Sindhi, and Punjabi, on their own land. He also spoke about the ongoing Pashtun-led jirgas (tribal councils) aimed at addressing local issues and highlighted new laws in the region that impose severe penalties for spreading false information.

Achakzai questioned the legitimacy of the current political situation, accusing the government of undermining the mandate given to Imran Khan’s party in the February elections and levying unfounded allegations against him and his wife.

In his speech, Achakzai firmly reiterated that Pashtuns are not against Pakistan but seek genuine recognition, rights, and the supremacy of the Constitution within the country.
