Punjab Increases Traffic Violation Fines Tenfold; Parents to Face Legal Action for Underage Driving

Lahore:The Punjab government has decided to increase fines for traffic violations across the province by ten times, as announced during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The meeting focused on improving traffic regulations and reducing road accidents.
A major decision taken was holding parents legally accountable for underage driving, with the possibility of formal legal action. Additionally, vehicles involved in dangerous driving or overloading will be impounded.
Using mobile phones while driving will now attract hefty fines as well, in a bid to enforce stricter road discipline.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed dissatisfaction over the current traffic management system, emphasizing the need for concrete and sustainable measures. She stated that she regularly monitors traffic conditions on various roads in Lahore and called for immediate improvements.
