Supreme Court Refers Contempt Case Against PTI Founder to Regular Bench

Islamabad:The Supreme Court of Pakistan has referred the **contempt of court case against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)** to a **regular bench**, deciding that the matter does not involve constitutional questions requiring an interpretation by a constitutional bench.

The case was heard by a **five-member constitutional bench** headed by **Justice Aminuddin Khan**. During the proceedings, **Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail** questioned whether the matter rightly belonged before a constitutional bench, suggesting it should be dealt with by a regular bench instead.

Representing the PTI founder, senior lawyer **Salman Akram Raja** argued that the case does **not involve any constitutional issue**, supporting the position that a regular bench should hear it.

After hearing all parties, the court agreed and **formally ordered the transfer of the case** to a regular bench for further proceedings.

### Background

The **contempt petition was filed by the federal government**, relating to the events of **May 25, 2022**, when the PTI held a long march and allegedly violated court orders by advancing to **D-Chowk** instead of the designated protest location.
