Balochistan Plays Key Role in Pakistan’s Economic Growth: CM Sardar Sarfraz Bugti

Quetta/Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sarfraz Bugti emphasized the vital role of Balochistan in Pakistan’s economic development, noting that the province’s importance is increasing as the region progresses. He made these remarks while addressing an international conference on “Regional Connectivity and Emerging Opportunities for Pakistan,” held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The conference was attended by former President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan China Institute Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, and other prominent personalities.
CM Bugti highlighted Pakistan’s strategic and geographic positioning, which he said is bringing the country to the center of a new geo-economic era. He pointed out that for centuries, Pakistan’s region has served as a hub for trade, cultural, and intellectual exchanges, bridging the East and West. He added that as the world moves towards deeper economic ties and integration, Pakistan is once again ready to fulfill its historic responsibility to promote peaceful trade, cultural exchange, and collective development.
CM Bugti stressed that Balochistan is fundamental to Pakistan’s economic progress. He specifically emphasized the importance of the Gwadar Port, describing it as having the potential to become the region’s largest commercial corridor. With modern port infrastructure, top-tier logistical facilities, and extensive multi-dimensional communication links, Gwadar will not only connect Pakistan to global markets but will also serve as a key maritime trade gateway for neighboring countries.
Regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), CM Bugti stated that it symbolizes the deep friendship and mutual trust between Pakistan and China. He added that CPEC is not just an infrastructure project but also a beacon of hope for the people of Pakistan, especially in Balochistan, where new job opportunities, skills development, and business prospects are rapidly becoming a reality. He also highlighted the recent completion of the Gwadar International Airport, which he described as a gift from China that would enhance regional connectivity and open new avenues for investment.
CM Bugti lauded President Asif Ali Zardari’s significant role in the conceptualization, initiation, and implementation of CPEC, acknowledging his efforts, interest, and actions in fostering Balochistan’s development. He also emphasized the importance of peace and stability for the success of such large development projects. In this context, the Balochistan government is taking practical steps to ensure law and order, governance, and public welfare.
The Chief Minister underscored that true development occurs when the public feels a sense of participation in the development process, and the government’s priority is the economic and social advancement of the people. He also highlighted Pakistan’s effective role in regional economic development, energy cooperation, and security measures through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He emphasized that if the countries in the region consolidate their resources and work together for common goals, the SCO could prove to be an effective platform for regional progress and stability.
CM Bugti further assured that the Balochistan government is committed to ensuring transparent policies, a fair developmental process, and equal opportunities for all, ensuring that the fruits of development reach the common man. He noted that efforts are underway to provide citizens in remote areas of Balochistan with full access to education, healthcare, and basic facilities, enabling them to contribute effectively to the nation’s development.
Concluding his address, CM Bugti thanked the Pakistan-China Institute for organizing the conference, which he said helps in highlighting the region’s immense economic and trade potential. He expressed hope that Pakistan, along with its neighboring countries and regional partners, will continue on the path of joint development and prosperity. He affirmed that the country is steadfast on the path to progress, believing that through mutual cooperation, partnership, and respect, a prosperous future can be built.
