US President Joe Biden Commutes Death Sentences of 37 Federal Inmates to Life Imprisonment

Washington:In a significant move, **US President Joe Biden** has commuted the death sentences of **37 federal inmates** to life imprisonment. Following this decision, the number of federal inmates awaiting the death penalty has been reduced to just **three**.

According to American media reports, President Biden explained that this shift aligns with his administration’s ongoing moratorium on federal executions. He emphasized that his stance reflects a commitment to a more humane justice system.

However, President Biden made it clear that the death penalty would remain in place for individuals convicted of the most heinous crimes, including **terrorism** and **mass murder**. Notably, the death sentences of high-profile criminals such as **Dzhokhar Tsarnaev**, convicted of the **2013 Boston Marathon bombing**, and **Dylann Roof**, responsible for the **Charleston church shooting**, will not be altered. Additionally, **Robert Bowers**, the perpetrator of the **Pittsburgh synagogue shooting**, will also continue to face the death penalty.

This decision marks a continuation of President Biden’s efforts to limit the use of the death penalty at the federal level, a policy that has been a subject of debate and scrutiny in recent years. Biden’s administration has previously taken steps to reduce the use of capital punishment, with the aim of promoting rehabilitation and reducing the potential for wrongful executions.
