New Internet Cable to Boost Speed in Pakistan: 45,000 km Long Cable to Be Connected Today
Islamabad:In a significant development aimed at improving internet speed across Pakistan, a modern internet cable linking the country to Africa will be connected today. This project will enhance Pakistan’s internet infrastructure, with the cable covering a distance of **45,000 kilometers**.
IT experts suggest that the cable will have a capacity of **180 terabytes per second**, promising to significantly boost internet speed across the country. The new connection is expected to improve speeds for various online services, including social media platforms, enhancing the overall digital experience for users.
The move comes after **Shazia Fatima**, the Minister of State for Information Technology, acknowledged that Pakistan’s internet speed had not been up to the expected standard. Recently, the **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)**, a key government ally, criticized the government over the issue of slow internet speeds.
During a session of the **National Assembly**, **Shazia Marri**, a member of the PPP, expressed her concerns, stating that it was ironic that while the country was struggling with inadequate internet speeds, the government introduced the **Digital Nation Bill**. She humorously remarked that the “firewall sounds were so loud, they were unbearable.”
The installation of the new cable is a positive step towards modernizing Pakistan’s internet infrastructure, with hopes that it will help the country keep pace with global digital advancements and foster more efficient communication and online activities.
