PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Calls for Parliamentary Dialogue to Resolve Issues; Warns of Street Protests if No Resolution
Islamabad: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has called on the Parliament to facilitate negotiations and provide a way forward, stating that the dust from the events of May 9 should now settle. Speaking in the National Assembly, Barrister Gohar emphasized that the PTI seeks justice for the injustices it has faced and wants to resolve issues through dialogue in the parliament.
He stated, “We want to negotiate within this house to account for the wrongs committed against us. We are seeking a path through dialogue, and we have formed a committee for negotiations. This should not be seen as a sign of weakness. If no solution is provided through talks, we will take to the streets again. We should not be forced into repeated street protests. Let’s call a parliamentary committee meeting, and let the dust from May 9 settle.”
Barrister Gohar also referenced recent political protests in Brazil and other countries where demonstrators entered legislative assemblies without resulting in violence. “There was constitutional protest here, yet bullets were fired. Your parliament saw gunfire. The defense minister gave a strange explanation, claiming that the bullets were fired by Ali Amin Gandapur’s guards. This is an odd claim, and the government is unwilling to acknowledge that gunfire even took place,” he remarked.
The PTI leader further questioned the government’s stance on violence, referring to the shooting deaths during the implementation of the Shariah Law in which eight people lost their lives. “The government registered cases but later apologized. Why can’t the government show mercy on the victims’ families?” he asked.
Barrister Gohar also rejected allegations that the PTI was playing the “Pashtun card.” He asserted, “Our people who took to the streets were unarmed. If you have any videos showing PTI supporters with weapons, bring them forward.” He concluded by reaffirming the popularity of PTI’s founder, stating that there is no need for rallies to prove his standing, as his popularity was already proven on February 8.
