Balochistan Government to Reopen Over 3,000 Schools, Recruitment of Teachers Underway

Quetta:The Balochistan government has decided to reopen more than 3,000 closed schools across the province. In a bid to address the shortage of teachers, recruitment is currently underway for teachers on a contract basis in various districts. As of June this year, there were 3,500 government schools in the province, but due to a lack of teachers, 254 schools in the Pishin district were also shut down.

To reopen these schools, the recruitment process for teachers has begun. So far, 163 teachers have been appointed. The government had announced 185 positions, for which 900 candidates applied, and 163 teachers have already been selected. These teachers will work to reopen the closed schools at the Union Council (UC) level. The government estimates that around 100 schools will be reopened in the process.

Among the newly recruited teachers in Pishin, there is a notable inclusion of a female teacher from the Christian community, Arooj Arif, who has earned recognition for her hard work and excellence in every exam she took. Arif, who topped the merit list, expressed her joy, saying, “I believe in honesty and dedication, and I am thrilled to teach young children.”

Arooj Arif shared her experience of being selected for the position, saying, “I received the call just a week after applying, and I was surprised. I hadn’t paid any bribes, so it was clear to me that I was selected based on merit.”

While the Balochistan government has assured that the recruitment process in districts like Pishin has been conducted fairly and on merit, there have been allegations of bribery in the appointments of teachers in Kohlu and Dera Bugti. In response to these complaints, the Anti-Corruption Department has initiated an investigation into the matter.
