MQM-P Demands Resignation of Sindh CM, Karachi Mayor Over Gul Plaza Tragedy

KARACHI:* Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) has demanded the resignation of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon over the Gul Plaza tragedy.

The party has also announced that it will not withdraw its demand for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incident.

Addressing the media, MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that the party wanted to make it clear to the Sindh government that all attempts to divert attention from the Gul Plaza tragedy would be thwarted. He warned that MQM-P would continue its struggle for justice for the victims, even if the provincial government withdrew security from MQM leaders or filed false cases against them.

He said MQM-P was determined to ensure justice for the affected families and would not bow to pressure.

Earlier, MQM-P decided to raise a strong voice for the rights of Gul Plaza victims. During a party meeting, options including protests, raising the issue forcefully in assemblies and pursuing legal action were discussed.

Previously, MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal had alleged that the Sindh government had withdrawn security from federal ministers and leaders belonging to MQM-P.

However, according to sources, security has now been restored for Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar and Anees Qaimkhani.
