PTI Protest in Islamabad Leads to Violent Clashes, Multiple Casualties Reported
Islamabad:Pakistan — Violent clashes erupted in Islamabad during a protest march organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), leading to multiple casualties and injuries. According to conflicting reports, PTI lawmakers and party officials have claimed that up to 12 of their workers were killed in the violence, while party spokespersons reported a death toll of 8.
The Federal Government’s Poly Clinic Hospital in Islamabad, which received a number of the injured, released a statement on Wednesday detailing the situation. The hospital confirmed that 2 dead bodies and 26 wounded individuals were brought in, many of whom had sustained bullet injuries. Most of the injured were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a stronghold of PTI, which saw widespread participation in the protest.
The unrest began on Tuesday as PTI supporters gathered in Islamabad’s Blue Area and marched towards D-Chowk, a key location near government buildings. As the protest progressed, violent clashes broke out between PTI supporters and security forces, leading to street confrontations throughout the day. Tear gas and live ammunition were reportedly used by law enforcement to disperse the crowds.
The situation remains tense, with political leaders from both sides accusing each other of inciting violence. PTI has condemned the heavy-handed tactics used by the security forces, while the government has blamed the party for escalating the situation.
This latest wave of unrest highlights the deepening political crisis in Pakistan, with growing concerns over the safety of citizens and the stability of the country’s democratic institutions.
