Balochistan Decides to Cut Unnecessary Administrative Expenses, Restructure Education Endowment Fund

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has decided to reduce unnecessary administrative expenses and restructure the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund (BEEF) to improve its performance and utilise available resources more effectively, enabling more deserving and talented students to receive scholarships.

The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Monday to review the fund’s performance and consider measures to improve its operations.

During the meeting, officials briefed the participants that savings generated by reducing administrative expenditure would be redirected towards scholarships, helping more deserving students pursue higher education.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said the Balochistan Education Endowment Fund was an important institution established to provide better educational opportunities and support young people who might otherwise be unable to continue their higher studies because of financial difficulties.

He said the proposed restructuring would improve the institution’s performance, reduce administrative costs and ensure more effective utilisation of available resources.

The chief minister also highlighted the provision of scholarships to children of martyrs, members of minority communities and the transgender community, describing the initiative as an important step towards ensuring equal access to education and creating opportunities for different segments of society.

He directed the relevant authorities to make the scholarship distribution system more effective, transparent and result-oriented so that financial assistance reached students who genuinely deserved it.

Bugti said promoting education and providing deserving and talented students with opportunities to advance were among the top priorities of the Balochistan government.

He expressed his commitment to supporting a greater number of students in pursuing higher education through prudent use of public funds and institutional reforms.

During the meeting, BEEF Chief Executive Officer Khalid Mandai briefed participants on the institution’s performance and operations, while Finance Secretary Jahangir Khan explained its current expenditure and the anticipated benefits of the proposed restructuring.

The meeting also reviewed measures to improve the fund’s overall performance, eliminate unnecessary expenses and redirect the resulting savings towards educational scholarships.
