Punjab Government Extends Detention of Imran Khan’s Three Sisters Until November 20

LAHORE:The Punjab government has extended the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s three sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan, for another 30 days, informing the Lahore High Court that their detention will now continue until November 20.

The development came during a hearing on a petition seeking the recovery of the three women, presided over by Justice Abhar Gul Khan at the Lahore High Court.

The petition was filed by Shahrez, Aleema Khan’s son. Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar appeared on behalf of the petitioner, while Uzma Khan’s husband, Ahad Khan, and Aleema Khan’s son were also present in court.

During the proceedings, the Punjab government’s counsel submitted a report from the provincial Home Secretary informing the court that the detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters had been extended for another 30 days.

The lawyer stated that their detention had previously been extended on October 7 and would now remain in force until November 20.

Following the submission of the government’s report, the court disposed of the petition in light of the information presented.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel requested that the three women be recovered and produced before the court.

However, the court observed that the detention order had been issued by the deputy commissioner, who had not been named as a respondent in the petition.

The court remarked that it could not issue an order beyond the scope of the petition as it had been filed.

Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar maintained that the legal proceedings would also face complications arising from the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments.

The hearing concluded after the government submitted its report regarding the extension of the detention period.
