Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Officials to Meet Iranian Leadership in Tehran Today
TEHRAN:Senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, members of the Mecca defence pact, are scheduled to meet Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday to discuss regional coordination and security, Reuters reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
According to the report, Pakistan will be represented by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, while Saudi Arabia will be represented by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman. Türkiye’s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin, is also expected to participate in the talks.
The meeting would mark the first high-level engagement between Iran and all three members of the defence bloc since Saudi Arabia came under escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces.
The development comes amid rising regional tensions and growing concerns over security following missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities intercepted another wave of missiles and drones on Sunday, according to Reuters.
Earlier this month, ministers from the three countries held an emergency meeting in Riyadh and agreed to ensure the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in August. Under the pact, an armed attack against one member is treated as an attack against all, with the signatories committing to take necessary measures to protect one another’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pakistan has approved the agreement, while the ratification process in Türkiye remains underway.
The planned meeting in Tehran is expected to focus on regional coordination amid the escalating conflict and the broader security challenges facing the Middle East. However, the participating governments had not officially confirmed the meeting in response to Reuters’ requests for comment at the time of the report.
