Trump Claims He Stopped Pakistan-India War Through Tariffs, Says He Deserved Nobel Peace Prize

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for preventing a war between Pakistan and India in 2025, saying he threatened both countries with trade restrictions and heavy tariffs to force them to stop fighting.
Addressing a rally in Florida, Trump said he had helped stop eight wars around the world but had still not received the Nobel Peace Prize.
“I stopped eight wars, and I still didn’t get the Nobel Prize,” Trump said, claiming that tariffs had played a key role in ending five of those conflicts.
Referring to the conflict between Pakistan and India, both nuclear-armed neighbours, Trump said he had warned the two countries that trade would be halted and heavy tariffs imposed if they did not stop the fighting.
The US president also claimed that 11 aircraft had been shot down during the Pakistan-India conflict. He said the United Nations had not helped him stop the wars and described preventing armed conflicts as a source of pride.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that his intervention helped bring an end to the 2025 hostilities between Pakistan and India. However, his latest remarks represent his own account of the events.
Trump Warns of Possible Further Action Against Iran
During the same address, Trump said the United States would turn its attention to Cuba after dealing with Iran. He added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be sent to finalise a deal with Havana.
Discussing Iran, Trump said the United States could consider another military operation and claimed that Washington could bring the conflict to an end quickly.
He said the key question was whether to end the war or allow Iran to become further weakened.
Trump Makes Claims About Oil Shipments Through Strait of Hormuz
Trump also addressed oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that oil was continuing to move through the strategic waterway.
He said the United States was extracting oil through the strait on its own terms and claimed that oil exports through the passage were higher than before the war.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical international energy route through which a substantial share of global oil supplies passes. Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions over regional security and the potential impact on international energy markets.
