No New Polio Case Reported in Balochistan Since November 2024: CM Bugti

QUETTA:Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that no new polio case has been reported in the province since November 2024, but continued surveillance and an effective strategy remain essential to completely eradicate the virus.

In his message on World Polio Day, the chief minister described the absence of new cases as a significant achievement, stressing that sustained vigilance and effective measures are necessary to maintain this progress.

He said environmental sample testing and close monitoring of high-risk areas were essential for the timely detection of the possible presence of the poliovirus. He also emphasised the need for an immediate response to any detection of the virus and ensuring the quality of polio vaccination campaigns.

Bugti urged parents to ensure that all children under the age of five receive polio vaccine drops during every vaccination campaign, stressing that no child should be left unvaccinated.

He said polio eradication was a shared responsibility of the government, parents and all segments of society. Religious scholars, tribal elders, teachers and the media should play their role in raising public awareness about the disease and the importance of vaccination.

The chief minister praised the efforts of polio workers, saying their dedication in reaching children in difficult and remote areas was vital to securing a safer future for them.

He reaffirmed that efforts to eradicate polio in Balochistan would be further intensified through vaccination, effective surveillance and public cooperation.

Bugti said the government remained committed to ensuring that every child had a polio-free and healthy future.
