KP Police Salaries: Proposal Seeks Security Allowance of Up to 120% of Basic Pay

PESHAWAR: A major proposal has been prepared to increase the salaries and allowances of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police personnel, recommending a security challenge allowance of up to 120 per cent of basic salary. The summary has been sent to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi for consideration.

Under the proposal, police personnel deployed in different areas would receive allowances at varying rates, depending on the security situation and the risks they face. However, the recommendations are still awaiting final approval.

Proposed Allowance Rates

According to the summary, police personnel serving in the southern districts and merged districts of the province would receive a security challenge allowance equal to 120 per cent of their basic salary.

Personnel posted in other settled districts would be eligible for an allowance of 100 per cent of basic pay, while those serving in the Hazara region would receive 75 per cent.

The proposed increase aims to provide financial relief to police personnel in recognition of the security threats they face and the demanding nature of their duties. If approved, the allowances could significantly increase their monthly earnings.

Monthly Expenditure to Exceed Rs5.15 Billion

The summary estimates that more than Rs5.15 billion in additional expenditure would be required each month to pay the proposed security challenge allowances.

The disbursement of these allowances would depend on government approval and the availability of the required financial resources.

The summary states that the KP Police have been engaged in counterterrorism operations for the past three decades and have played a crucial role in maintaining law and order across the province.

However, it maintains that police salaries and allowances remain lower than those offered in other provinces.

Billions Sought for Modern Weapons and Protective Equipment

The proposal also seeks additional funding to strengthen the operational capabilities of the provincial police force.

The requested equipment includes submachine guns, rifles, ammunition, transport vehicles, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars, anti-drone systems and armoured vehicles.

According to sources, more than Rs13.87 billion in additional funds have been sought for police procurement.

For the 2026-27 financial year, the summary also requests the release of Rs11.16 billion for procurement in settled districts and more than Rs3.35 billion for the merged districts.

Rs12.22 Billion Proposed for Development Projects

The summary further seeks funds for ongoing police development projects and various schemes, recommending the release of a total of Rs12.22 billion for these initiatives.

The proposals for increased salaries, enhanced security allowances and modern equipment come amid continuing security challenges faced by law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The next step will depend on the decisions of the relevant authorities, approval of the proposed allowances and allocation of the required funds.
