JUI-F Rejects Governor Rule, Says No Desire for Governor’s Post

ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Central Secretary of Information Muhammad Aslam Ghori has said that any impression of the government offering or the party seeking a governorship is completely baseless, stating that JUI-F had refused to join the government coalition from day one. “We do not accept governor rule at all, so what would we do with a governorship?” he said, adding that the person appointed as governor by the government is so incompetent that he could not even become a district mayor.
In a statement, Ghori strongly criticized the federal government and its ministers for contradictory statements on the matter, noting that some ministers claim the party is demanding a governorship while others deny it. He said the real issue is that the Prime Minister made a commitment to Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and government spokespersons are now making irrelevant statements instead of answering on the matter.

Ghori said Maulana Fazlur Rahman has for the past two to three months been demanding an in-camera session of Parliament to openly discuss serious issues including US-Iran affairs, the operation in the province, and governor rule, because JUI-F is the largest stakeholder in the war against terrorism and is fighting terrorism without weapons.
Criticizing the attitude of PML-N leaders, the JUI-F spokesman recalled that when the PML-N leadership was in difficulty and Maryam Nawaz’s door was broken at a Karachi hotel, Maulana Fazlur Rahman was the first person to give her the status of a daughter and cover her with a chador. He said Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was sent to protest when she was arrested in Lahore at a time when PML-N did not even have its own workers, adding that it appears some people are deliberately trying to create distance between PML-N and JUI-F.
Reacting strongly to a statement by Mohsin Naqvi, Ghori said the party has known him since the time of Pervez Musharraf’s rule when he came to interview Maulana during his detention in Dera Ismail Khan as a CNN representative. He advised Naqvi to work cautiously in his position and remember the fate of his predecessors.
He raised the question that if governor rule has been imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the basis of unrest and terrorism, whether conditions in Balochistan are any better, where the main highway has been closed for a month and a half. He said JUI-F’s central Shura meeting will make balanced decisions with patience and tolerance after reviewing all facts.
