Government Rejects Rumors of Rift With Military Leadership as “Baseless and Misleading

Islamabad:The federal government has categorically dismissed speculation about tensions between civilian and military leadership, calling such claims “baseless” and “misleading.”
Speaking to *The News*, Dr. Tauqeer Shah — former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and a close adviser within the cabinet — said there is no truth to social-media rumors or political chatter suggesting friction between the government and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
He rejected assertions that the notification for the Chief of Army Staff/Chief of Defence Force (CDF) appointment is being delayed due to disagreements, stressing that the relationship between civilian and military leadership remains “smooth” and “fully coordinated.”
Dr. Shah further clarified that PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has deep respect for Field Marshal Asim Munir, and has repeatedly praised his professionalism, commitment, and service to the nation.
He added that Nawaz Sharif voted in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, reaffirming his consistent support for institutional frameworks and the military leadership.
Commenting on the circulating rumors and speculation over delayed notifications, Dr. Shah said such narratives were “mischievous” attempts to spread confusion at a time when unity and stability are crucial.
He emphasized that the elected government and military leadership enjoy “extraordinarily harmonious relations,” with complete consensus on national priorities and objectives. Any narrative suggesting otherwise, he said, is entirely unfounded.
