Goods Transporters Announce 5% Freight Increase After Fuel Price Hike

KARACHI:The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a **5 percent increase in freight charges** following the latest increase in petroleum product prices.

All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan condemned the increase in fuel prices, saying transporters across the country strongly opposed the decision.

Shehzad Awan said that diesel prices had increased by Rs19 per litre and petrol prices by Rs20 per litre over the past 17 days. He termed the policy of changing petroleum prices on a daily basis unacceptable.

The transporters’ alliance president said a nationwide strike had been postponed for 40 days following assurances from the federal and provincial governments. He said some of their demands had been accepted and implementation was under way, while most of their demands remained pending.

“We announce a 5 percent increase in goods transport freight charges,” Shehzad Awan said.

Meanwhile, the government has increased the price of petrol by **Rs5.58 per litre**, taking its new price to **Rs364.35 per litre**.

The price of diesel has also been increased by **Rs4.18 per litre**, bringing its new price to **Rs385.95 per litre**.
