Net Metering: Major Facility Introduced for Solar Consumers
ISLAMABAD: Solar consumers have been provided a major facility with the introduction of an online portal allowing them to check the status of their net metering applications.
The Power Division said that 11,695 pending applications related to the transition from net metering to net billing had been resolved.
According to the Power Division, progress was made on pending applications following directions from Energy Minister Awais Leghari. A total of 16,654 applications had been pending, of which the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) directly contacted 11,695 consumers through messages and WhatsApp.
The Power Division spokesperson advised consumers not to pay any fee to anyone for faster processing of their applications.
Consumers can now also check the current status of their net metering applications through the online portal.
The spokesperson said the purpose of directly contacting consumers was to protect them from agents and unnecessary third-party interference. The verification process, meanwhile, is aimed at protecting the rights of legitimate consumers and preventing illegal connections.
Energy Minister Awais Leghari said the government strongly supports the promotion of solar energy and renewable energy.
He said the government wanted to establish a transparent and sustainable system rather than create obstacles to solarisation, adding that efforts were being made to facilitate consumers while ensuring proper verification and regulation of the system.
